Tennessee Highway Patrol to return in 2008

From the home page of Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway, Graham Co, NC:
Quote:
The State of Tennessee is spending more than $200,000 of taxpayer’s money to add overtime patrols at the Dragon this summer. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is receiving a $75,000 grant and the Blount County Sherriff Office is receiving $125,000. These grants will last through the summer and end on September 30, 2008.
Those who went last year can tell you that the THP didn't prevent us from having a great time.

Wonder what they do when they see CA plates.

Maybe it will be like when I got pulled over in Indiana.

Indiana HP officer: "sir, where is your front license plate?"
Me: "California"
Indiana HP officer:"Sir, dont be a smartass with me"
Me: "sorry"
Indiana HP officer: "have a safe trip home"

What's the big deal anyways? How many accidents are there in the summer? More than drunk driving? Cell phone use while driving? I think they should put their money to better use.

I doubt it comes from drunk driving and cell phone use as much as it comes from passers and speeders.

Though I haven't been there myself, that's what my belief is.

doubt cell phones are an issue.. seeing how there is no cell phone use up there because you cant get signal, you have to drive a good ways to robbinsville to use ur damn phone.. which kinda sucks.. everyone needs to get 2 way radios!

I think pkkid is asking if there are more accidents at the Dragon than there are drunk driving and cell phone use throughout the state. Why are they picking on the Dragon rather than working for the greater good?

i really wish more people hopped back on the CB radio craze or other forms of radio.
it's so awesome.
i always wanted to put a CB radio in every car i owned, but it just looks a little silly.

nonetheless, i had an external magnet mount for my phone which helps pretty well.
it really makes it look like an RC car, which is funny

Last time I went to the dragon in September, there were TN cops around quite a bit. I didn't see anyone get pulled. I saw quite a few motorcycles and pickups pulled. Even Killboy (and girl) gave us a heads up a few times about cops.
