I usually just write down the number on the trip meter, after resetting it from the last time I filled the tank. Then reset the trip meter before driving away from the pump.

Miles traveled / gallons filled = MPG

So far around 21-25, very spirited 40 city/60 hwy, at around 1500 miles traveled so far.
