Lol, Tom. I think there is a very divergent view here. I certainly do NOT drive my car like that at all times. As I have said in several places herein, it is what it is capable of when experimenting with driving styles when using active feedback from a scantool.

I also do not think that the other scantool users who have reported high MPG drive that way at all time (though I could be wrong...). As I reported elsewhere in this thread, when driving 'normally' I average about 27mpg (which is my polling response for the listed poll for this thread). This is up from 25ish by moderating my freeway speeds a bit (or rather, instead of driving 85, toning it down a bit). The mid-30s numbers are principally when experimenting on 'what it can do' (road trips, or a few fills in a row playing around with the stats from the scantool for half a day on a few weekends).

I also Auto-X for fun. I just like playing with the car and since I did not buy it to be my daily driver (I've got a corral of other vehicles for that) but to be a 'play' car, that's what I do, perhaps to both extremes.

At the end of the day, as I have said before, driving the car in 6th at 52mph is not normal in any way (or 5th at about 40mph returns about the same MPG). Just driving about in the car like a normal human actually driving at a reasonable speed, and leaving a stoplight faster than a wheelchair bound grandmother, will certainly give you much more 'normal' returns. I certainly do not advocate folks to drive in that manner normally...it really makes other drivers mad (and may make you 'mad' as well, if exposed to it for long periods of time)
