are u trying to kill your lungs? im sorry but thus just screams idiot. dude this is extremely dangerous
also in response to 80 watt bulbs. go for it, what you cant see cant hurt you right?
the break down of the wire will begin in short order, anyone with electrical backdown knows this. its been discussed multiple times
stock wattage of 51 @ 12 v is 4.25 amps.
your wattage of 80 @ 12v is 6.66 amps. thats a significant increase.
now you have to take into consideration the resistance of the entire circuit, not to mention the extra heat in the chamber and that will be created on the wire
its not gonna be instant catastrophic failure, we are talking failure over time
it will get worse over a course of a few years, kind of like house fires when people do their own electrical work, overload a circuit just by a minor amount
14 gauge wire is 15 amp
16 gauge is 10 amp
18 gauge is 7 amp. these are at best, and not taking into consideration we are not using house voltage, were using low voltage.
if im not mistaken our stock wiring is 18 gauge. that means at 120 v (if it was so rated, but its not standard 600 v wire) and it was the best on the market, you could use up to 7 amps. in that case, you would be SAFE using 80 watt bulbs
but were talking reality, not theory. in reality u MIGHT be able to use up to 5 or 6 amps. as the length of the wire is not taken into consideration.
also we are talking 12 volt. not 14.4 like it is when its running
either way. do some research, if you need more light an 80 watt bulb IS NOT the way to go. no matter how many people say they are running it fine. you will need a wire harness in order to avoid damage to the stock wiring. and you may need to watch for headlight melting, as they are designed to withstand certain heat outputs.
HID's (with wire harness) or HIR's (toshiba or the new philips ONLY!) are they only bulbs you should put as headlight replacements.
dont mess around with high powered bulbs and think your gonna be fine.
AND DONT PAINT YOUR LIGHT BULB A CERTAIN COLOR WITH ANY MATERIAL! ESP A SHARPIE!
thats a sure fire way to go from lighted to BOOM!
