DIY: Removing Door Panels On A 2006 Honda Civic

Remove Car Door Panels On A 2006 Honda Civic & http://www.honda-tech.com/showpost.p...87&postcount=1

Gaining Access To Repair Power
Windows, Door Locks, Side Mirrors Etc.
(Covers Model Years 2006 To Present)

Skill Level: 2-3 (Basic to Intermediate)
Time Taken: About 15 Minutes

I found only two screws and one push clip holding the 2006 Honda Civic
left front door panel on.

With a small screwdriver I removed the cover panel on the inside door latch.

First I removed the Phillips screw from the latch assembly.

With a small screwdriver I pushed in the center of the button clip slightly until the clip broke free, then I just pulled it out.

With a pry tool or small screwdriver I pried upwards at the slots in the switch panel (red arrows).

By pressing on the tabs of the wire connectors
, I was able disconnect the wire harness from the switch panel.

Next I removed the Philips screw from the pull handle area.

Then with a rigid putty knife I pried the plastic panel from the metal door shell.

With an upward push, the panel unhooked from the lip of the door.

But... the door panel is still connected by the inside door handle cables.

Disconnecting The Door Handle:

In the past, most cars
have used metal linkage rods to connect the door release handle and lock button to the door latch. This Honda
uses a pair of sheathed cables, similar to those used on bicycle or motorcycle brakes.

Lock Button Connector:

First I unhooked the securing clip on the end of the inner wire (arrow). Then I disconnected the plastic end of the outer cable sheath.

Door Release Connector:

The end of the outer cable sheath was different than the lock button cable. I used a small screwdriver to pry open the plastic retainer, and the cable came out.
