Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you ok as long as the inner clearance (aka backspace) remains the same?

So a 8" width w/ 32mm offset would fit, as it has the same clearance (146mm) as a 7" width w/ a 45mm offset.

Wondering because if I get different rims I'd want a deeper rim look (aka BMW M3).
