HFP Kit (Coupe) - DIY Tips
Well, i didnt really take any pictures during my HFP Kit install, so i'll mention some things that might help someone attempting it (i do have a few pics of the side brackets that i'll post up later):
Prep Work:
- washed the car with dawn dishwashing liquid to remove all old wax.
- cleaned all areas where double sided tape would attach with a microfiber cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol.
- removed front bumper
- get a friend to help you (or in my case -- my pops)
Tips:
1 - Started with the front, was pretty straight forward - follow the instructions and you should be fine. I have a very slight gap above the fog light area where it curves around on the driver side...couldnt eliminate it, X seems to think he has a fix ...
2 - Sides, these looked to be the biggest PITA, but actually seemed to be very easy. Jack the side of the car up, i used two jacks. Use the instructions & the templates supplied to measure the correct distances where they tell you to mark with a pen... i put a small piece of painters tape on all the points instead of using a pen. Line up the bracket with all the points you made (have someone help you) --making sure to remove the sections of the tape backing as it says in the instructions, recheck the alignment with the templates and then stick it on. Do the other side now so it's out of the way.
- bolt on the little metal bracket pieces to the buttom of the skirt now, its easier that way. Slide in the side skirts, and pretty much follow the rest of the instructions...the rest is cake. The 2nd side took me about 10 mins total to install.
3 - Rear, easiest section by far. Jack the rear end up. Follow the instructions (ignoring the part to cut your bumper, its completely not needed). Bolt up the rear lip to the rear bumper...not fully tightening the screws in yet. If done correctly at this point i had 0 gap all around. Then i just started drilling underneath the bumper...started with a small bit, finishing with 10mm bit. Follow the rest of the instructions to bolt it in, remove the double sided tape and call it a damn day!
*** updated ***
- For any small gaps, use the included spacers between the existing bumpers and the HFP lips, one should be enough. This solved my gap issue, now i'm 100% gap free!
Happy HFP Kit'ing!
