It's incredibly easy to remove that clear piece in front of the tach. You unscrew one screw to the left of the steering wheel and then pull firmly on any location around the meter cover and it'll pop right off. I think there were eight snaps to pull loose. Then you disconnect the wiring to the switches on the meter cover and your gauge unit is right there. Undo the three screws (one left, one right, one on top) and you can just press little tabs that hold that clear piece in place. I tried cleaning mind and it didn't work, so tomorrow when the dealer opens up I'm going to go pick up a new one. It's really simple. From start to finish it took me under ten minutes.
