If you don't plan on taking your exhaust off and selling it, than you don't really need to clamp it.

I think the clamp was an afterthought. They really didn't plan on the clamp until they saw the length of that piece and figured it is too long for economical shipping. So they cut the piece in half and included a clamp to act as a sleeve sliding over the cut. This may be as good as using some duct tape and hoping it would never leak. Actually duct tape probably would seal better than this clamp since air will always find a way to escape in even the slightest crevis.
Anyway, I am going to install it with the clamp and then have an exhaust shop weld it.
