On this particular block, the oil leak originated from the block halves. The owner brought his EX in for an oil change and I noticed that the entire underside of the engine/ trans/ subframe was coated with oil. It was his first oil change and no previous repairs on the vehicle. He got a new engine.
And yes, you are correct. You have to instill fluorescent dye in order to pinpoint the oil leak unless it's blatantly obvious. Find a new dealer that knows what they're doing and value their customers.

I am diagnosing this problem myself, mine is coming from the passenger side of the rear block. Mine is coming from the sealing bolt.
The leak isn't massive, but it is annoying.
