I replaced an R18A1 block with only 5,000 miles on it just last week. The R18A1 can be plagued with oil leaks from various places, including the cylinder block halves, the sealing bolt near the rear main seal, the rear main seal itself, in addition to the timing chain tensioner cover. On this particular block, the oil leak originated from the block halves. The owner brought his EX in for an oil change and I noticed that the entire underside of the engine/ trans/ subframe was coated with oil. It was his first oil change and no previous repairs on the vehicle. He got a new engine.

And yes, you are correct. You have to instill fluorescent dye in order to pinpoint the oil leak unless it's blatantly obvious. Find a new dealer that knows what they're doing and value their customers.
