First, I have the K&N intake for my Si. It has a heatshield that connects to the old stock air tube that is by the fender.
I am not, I repeat not sticking a freakin blower inside of the damn intake, I am sticking it on into the resonator tube to provide cooler air form the fender which connects to the outside.
Second, I want to stick a mount in this heat shield ( not connected to the throttle body at all) so I can put a fan in it. This fan is going to be a small powerful long lasting fan like a good PC one or something. One that will suck air through the tube because air is not really coming through here to keep the SRI cool.
This is a project I will need help and insight on. I will need your guys help figuring out where to connect the fan so it can power itself when i start the car and unpower itself when i shut the car off. If you could also post up some fans, that would be awesome.
The reason why not much cooler air is coming form the air tube is because the K&N is not closed off in a vacuum like box causing it to suck air in from the tube (which restricts it somewhat). Thus the fan will draw in air from the fenderwell and bring in cooler air to the K&N filter and convect a bit of warm air away form the SRI.
EDIT:
A much much simpler solution has been found.
Attaching a blower right inbetween to blow around 125 to 150 CFMs of outside air to the K&N SRI.
This attachment requires a simple house and power connection. Obtaining power is the hard part now.
