Diesels are less user-friendly and less efficient the further you go into colder climates. There is also extreme elevation to watch out for, if you're ever taking a trip up a mountain. The stink and noise should be cured in the new generation of clean diesels, but the engines still vibrate, and that can lead to leaking connectors (ie. hello, A/C problems). All diesels in passenger vehicles are turbodiesels, so not only do you get late power while the turbo spins up, you also risk burning it out when parking your vehicle.
