You could be perfectly right on this. On the other hand, there is no better car company that I'd be willing to take a chance with than Honda. And they've been deploying this technology, including the CVT, for 10 years. Reliability is one of many factors to choosing a vehicle, but I think it gets taken out of proportion much too often.
Related to things that could go wrong, both the Civic Hybrid and Civic Si benefit from having EPS (electric-assisted power steering) because there is one less fluid and pump to worry about.
