Genesis Coupe 2.0T Track test drive
Took a 2.0T Track for a test drive last night. It was in Tsukuba Red.
Quick opinions.
Interior: I liked the interior a lot, the 2 tone interior is more a maroon/black than a red/black like I thought originally. The dash looks well designed, and I liked the seats a lot... the seats are black leather bolsters with a maroon mesh/cloth material that seems to grab well. Proximity key with push button start is pretty cool, but I know a lot of cars have that now, including almost all Nissan models.
Power: Not ridiculously impressed with the power, I knew this before I drove it though. Power can be added to this car though, but it will take aftermarket parts and potential warranty issues if you want big power. The car has a good deal of torque down low though, and was a pleasure to drive. For daily driving purposes its going to pull a lot harder than the Si unless you are taking the Si high into the rev-band.
Drivetrain: I didn't like the knob at all, but thats nothing you can't replace easily... just a random opinion. The clutch felt heavier than the Si's and took some getting used to. The shifter was firm, and didn't pose any issues.
Overall: The car felt like a very well built car, the engine hums nicely, but doesn't have the sexy roar the Si does stock. The car felt easy to drive, but as has been stated, bone stock it's not a power house by any means. The doors shut with a solid clunk, no rattles or excessive road noise. Steering felt very solid, but I didn't really have a chance to push it hard in corners.
I may go back and drive a V6 version, they didn't have a manual V6 on the lot last night I could drive. If I was to look at buying a V6 it would likely be the GT version, as the V6 track is slightly out of the price I am looking at.
Anyone have thoughts on other cars I should check out? I'm for sure checking out an 09 WRX, possibly a GTI... maybe a Speed 3? I'm not interested in the Cobalt SS, simply due to the interior/exterior (power/performance isn't the only selling point for me anymore.) I previously owned an 02 WRX manual, and an 05 Legacy GT auto...
