well the only spring compressor i have used is like a C clamp, it goes around the head and on side goes on the valve face and the other sits on top of the valve spring. then u clamp it down and it compresses the spring so that the retainer can be removed and boom, out comes the spring.

unless there is an easier way without taking the head off. i would love to hear it because obviously it would make installation a hell of a lot easier not having to remove the whole head.
