I don't know the answers to any of your questions but, I wish to offer a bit of advice. My sister learned this the hard way... if you know you're gonna remote start your car, make sure it's out of gear first.

She was showing off remote start at a party and her old new-beetle(pretty sweet set of wheels the way she had it decked out) started rolling forward up hill toward my uncles old old-beetle(his pride and joy) in his garage. A bunch of us had to run up and try to hold the car back while she unlocked the doors, hopped in and took the car out of gear. The car wasn't exactly flying up the driveway but, if you're not expecting it, or worse, not close enough to save it... you're screwed.
