That's what I've been doing.
But, really, before reading this, I tried everything but ripping my dash apart. I'd much rather suck it up and pay the $89.
All you need is an 11 MM deep socket to disconnect/reconnect the sensors:

(Sorry about the huge pic. I also apparently failed to take a zoomed in pic of the socket wrench on the sensor. )
1. Take the cap off.
2. Use the 11 MM socket to remove the nut.
3. Pull off the ring.
Do this in reverse to put them back on.
