I've recently discovered a new noise coming from my FA5. I've got 42k on the clock, just had the transmission fluid changed at the dealer about 1000 miles ago and now I'm hearing this humming noise coming from the transmission when engaging the clutch.
Background: I discovered it yesterday, while in pretty heavy traffic, and figured it could be from all the shifting (mostly 1-2, stop, repeat). I didn't think much of it until I drove the car again today and heard the same noise. It's sometimes not noticeable and sometimes loud. I will only hear the hum in the first gear I'm engaging from a stop. I think that statement is important because I will hear it in first, not in any other gear until I try to launch from a stop in another gear. I think the humming noise is coming from when the transmission is originally being engaged to move the vehicle.
As a test, I pulled the e-brake and slowly released the clutch in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. I heard the humming in all the gears, and if I kept the clutch right at the beginning of the engagement point I could keep the humming consistent (I didn't do this for more than a few seconds sustained).
I'm wondering what part of the transmission could be making this noise, and how serious it is? Could it be related to the fluid change? I've never heard it before, ever.
A quick google search brought this page up, which might be what I'm seeing:
Transmission Humming noise from clutch when cold - Civinfo
I also posted this on vtec.net and didn't get anything.
Thanks.
EDIT: i also noticed the noise doesn't always occur, but its not related to how cold or warm the car is. it happens in reverse too. i cant hear it when stopped, it doesnt seem to be RPM dependant. it wouldnt be a motor mount or brake because i can be stationary and making the sound. baffling.
