Yes, if you go from defrost to foot-only mode and then from foot-only mode to one of the face modes, the A/C pump will turn off. Or think of it like this; going to any face mode (face, face/foot) will cancel any defrost (A/C pump) scenario.
And yes, if you haven't been in defrost mode, pressing foot-only will not initiate the A/C pump.
