Cool, it worked! I don't like that the light doesn't come on by default. That seems kind of sneaky to me. I had no clue the AC has been running this whole time! Why didn't they include the directions to shut that feature off in the manual?
Anyway, one small note...when you do these steps, the recirculation button flashes before the AC button flashes. I kept letting go once the recirc button flashed, which didn't work. I finally held it long enough for the AC button to flash and that finally did the trick.
