I'm not sure if this has any bearing on your "issue" but it says in the owner's manual that if any of the defrost settings are selected the AC turns on. The AC will remain on if any other non-defost setting is chosen until the car is turned off even if the light on the AC button isn't lit. To turn it off manually without turning off the car, you have to press the AC button in and then out while having a non-defrost mode selected.

Do you mean that the AC light comes on when you select just the foot area even if the button isn't depressed? I haven't played with it enough to know if mine does this too but will try and remember to check.
