that could be it... i put the drop-in in my 06 before 500 miles... same with my 08, it was installed in the dealer parking lot... and now I have a modified stock air box and M&M scoop and the breathing improvement dramatically smooths out the throttle/clutch effort because of engine never chokes for an intake charge. Even without a proven HP benefit it makes the car much more fun...
