I absolutely agree with e36jakeo on his assessment of the reflash. I've got my reflash done at 'Honda Mall of Georgia in Buford, GA' this past Tuesday.
My SI definitely drives smoother in normal driving conditions. Although it did not completely fix surging in the 1st gear, it certainly helped. My rev starts dropping almost as soon as I depress my clutch. It may all be in my head but it seems like it revs more freely all the way up to the VTEC range.
