my fiance is a teacher so here is her answers typed by me but in here voice. she is NY ceretified for grades 1-6, has taught pre-K as a permanent sub, and currently teaches 4th.
TEACHERS:
1. How did you reach your decision to become a teacher?
I didn't, I just always wanted to be one. I did community events like summer camp and babysitting to make sure I would like working with kids.

2. Did family or friends discourage your decision?
No, but they did ask me to make sure i wanted this and let me know it wasn't gonna be a piece of cake. My dad is a former teacher and now works as one of the high up people for the teacher's center of our district. He is a teacher center coordinator.

3. Do you regret your decision?
No. (she does say jokingly that she wishes that she had a waitress job to make life easier, since she is marring a Marine lol)

4. Do other people take teachers jobs seriously?
No. They think it is easy and don't realize how much work we must bring home.

5. Do teachers get enough support from their student’s parents?
Hell no.
6. What are some of the major problems you face in your profession?
State and district testing. Parents are not involved in a students education and don't discipline them enough, then look at me like its my fault.

7. What do you do to compensate for these problems?
I try to discipline the children within the class room and help them, but without parent involvement there is little I can do.

8. What teaching styles do you find to be the most beneficial?
Hands on and direct instruction. I don't really like group work. It works with some and not with others. I depends on the kids.

9. What do you think in (i think you ment is) the main importance of education?
Education is important to excel in life. It's needed to get a job and know about the world that is around you.

me personally i think the school system is lacking a little due to two things; lack of disciplined children and lack of funds. The funds are just small compared to what they should be so that teachers can do more within the schools. Not to mention, teachers are not nearly payed what they are worth. Of course I feel that military and certain divisions of cops don't get payed enough.

The lack of discipline in schools is from our society as a whole. Society has blown child abuse way out of proportion some times. You can't even really spank your child anymore. I hear stories from my fiance of how some students behave in school and i'm shocked. These are 4th graders we are talking about and the stuff they say/do I would not have even thought of doing to my teachers when I was in 8th grade. Parents need to whoop their child's behind every now and then. I tell you what, my parents were very involved with my teachers (which is the parents responsibility not the teachers to make sure that parents are involved). If I acted up there was a phone call that would come in later that night or an e-mail (as I got into high school) waiting for my parents to read. I would get spanked (or as i got older grounded back to the stone age and put in isolation) and I would not act up again. I wouldn't at least do what I did for a while anyways. Sometimes children just need one or two pats on the bottom to rember what they did wrong and why they shouldn't do it again.
