single cams can VTEC, its still the same 3 cam lobe layout just on one cam instead of two, so theres still the cam changeover, R18s and R20s are the only motors that use the new SOHC i-VTEC system of the low end VTEC and secondaries up top, all others, L series and all K series utilize a traditional top end VTEC engagement
so comparing engagement on R motors vs K motors is comparing apples to airplanes, two totally different systems. . . K vs L, thats a fair comparison
