Thumbs up DIY: USDM wiring for LED ignition ring

this is a DIY for those whom have purchased the Australian Domestic Market (ADM) LED light ring for your ignition switch area. "President" posted his DIY but it differs a bit with the wiring & the location of wires & other stuff...

this was requested by a few members whom have posted in his thread as well.

Angel & i decided to have a go @ it tonight (with minor hangups...) & here's how it was done:

STEP ONE - materials needed
========
*LED light ring & wiring w/ plastic clear cover piece
*super glue to secure the LED ring to the cover piece (if needed)
*flathead screwdriver
*phillips screwdriver
*patience (SRSLY )
*flashlight
*a friend would be good

STEP TWO
==========

carefully remove the footwell plastic trim pieces (1 is near the pedals, the other close to steering wheel & your knee if you were sitting in the driver's seat). these are only held in by plastic clips... be GENTLE!!!

STEP THREE
===========

using a phillips head screwdriver remove 3 screws from bottom of steering wheel trim piece. 1 is special the other 2 are the same... keep them separate. after that remove the top piece held in by more plastic clips.
all of the above is much easier when the tilt/telescoping wheel is all the way pulled out & up towards the dash.

STEP FOUR
==========

carefully remove the plastic trim pieces on the driver side. 1 is where the hood-latch release is located the other is where the door sill is (this one you do not have to REMOVE... just pull aside a bit).

STEP FIVE
=========

locate & unclip both the BLUE plug & the YELLOW plug to gain visual access to the wiring on the BLUE plug... this is where you will tap into existing wiring WITHOUT cutting/splicing/dicing etc...

there are 2 tabs on either side of BLUE plug. carefully using your fingernails pry the edges apart to see the exposed wiring inside. this is where you will insert the positive & negative ends of the wiring for the LED ring.

to install the wires... if you were looking @ the light ring in front of you the right wire will tap into the LIGHT PINK wire while the left wire will tap into the LIGHT BLUE wire.

once you get the correct positioning, crimp the plug ends back together sealing the wires in their proper placement. if you did this correctly the wires should NOT move out of their proper placement.

STEP SIX
=========

reattach the BLUE plug once you are satisfied with your work.
IMPORTANT!!!
test the current setup to ensure all 6 LEDs around the ring light up properly. ours did not. we had THREE of the 6 light up. proof positive it is VERY important to test before you finish this DIY & your project. i cannot stress this enough. after testing & it works, unplug the BLUE connector again to prevent any damage to the LEDs or wiring (and your EYES!).

STEP SEVEN
==========

once you have tested successfully & everything works begin to carefully maneuver the light ring around the steering column to position as shown in the picture below. it only goes one way so there really isn't much of a chance to do this wrong

STEP EIGHT
===========

one by one begin to put all the plastic trim pieces back together in their respective order & once completed test everything one final time.

by testing i mean:
*close all doors
*using keyless entry lock... then unlock the doors to ensure the LED ring lights up & then dims properly just exactly as your map lights and your dome light does. the idea behind tapping the LIGHT PINK and LIGHT BLUE wires is so all of the above works simultaneously together.

STEP NINE
==========

SHOW OFF & rub it in all your friends faces that you have a sweeeeeeeeeet ADM part on your car & they do not...

STEP TEN
============

show props to both "President" as well as Angel & Joey for taking the time to A. offer the part to you and B. show you how its done in the USDM-format.

ENJOY!

yes.... the same members that brought you the "stickied" DIY for JDM badges on the Civic sedan more than a year ago.

disclaimer: only three of the six LEDs are shown here (top part of the ring) due to a possible faulty part... we are working on getting a replacement from the original poster/seller. will update as the part becomes available & post new pics.
