I showed the bottom part to the dealership's assistant service manager and it was he who pointed out the protrusion of the fender's edge against the driver's door.
Anyway, he told me that in order to fix it, the body shop has to remove or at least loosen the front bumper so they can get to the (I think) four bolts on the fender, push it in and re-tighten the bolts.
He gestured one bolt in the hood area above the wheel well, one around 10" from the bottom part of the fender. I am not mechanically inclined at all, I'm just repeating what I was told so please don't hold it against me if it's inaccurate.

It doesn't sound like it would be too hard to do. I'll give it a look and see if I can do it. If its just one bolt then I'll take care of it.
