When the dealer tells you that you need to "change" your brakes, are they just talking about the pad?
Generally, they mean pads. Unless you f'd them up so bad you need rotors too... Did they tell you how much wear is left (usually %)? They may be telling you to change them just to upsell you.
When would you have to change the disc?-just feeling/visual grooves?
Depends on your driving style. I would say that you'd typically resurface them once or twice before you replace them. You would change them when it gets to thin to resurface. But like I said, it really depends on your driving.
Would it be better to go with the Honda brand, or is there another brand that might be better?
For a DD, Honda is fine. But just remember, there is ALWAYS better... Just depends if you want/need/can afford it.

As for cost, it depends where you go... You can actually buy cheap pads for like 50 bucks a pop, and have them installed by a friend. Or you can give the dealer couple hundred. Prices vary depending on where you go...
