I'm in Robbinsville right now at Phillips Motel. I must say this place is very nice for $65 per night. I highly recommend it. Where I expected the lobby to be actually turned out to be where the proprietors live. They deal with you with a set-up sort of like a drive-thru at the bank.
It lacks the beautiful location and many of the facilities of Tapoco Lodge but the rooms are nicer. The grounds are nicely landscaped and they have a restaurant right next door. The biggest drawback is that Robbinsville Elementary School is directly across the street so the view sucks. I would definitely recommend it over the Microtel and it is a great alternative to the lodge for those who want a cheaper place to stay. It's about like home right now because I'm sitting in the recliner with my Macbook on my lap.
I rode the jet boats today and it was a fun trip. I couldn't help but think they were taking it a little easy though because there were several senior citizens riding with us. I asked them about it later and they said they do adapt the ride to the type of passengers aboard. On the bus to the dock, the driver gives you a little history lesson about the area which is then continued while on the jet boat. The jet boat is powered by a 502 Chevy big-block and can do near 360 degree spins.
Later, I stopped by Tapoco and finalized things with Marsha. I found out that the lodge has finally begun to enter the modern age with a TV in every room. I forgot to ask her about phones though. There is wireless internet in the lodge building as well.
