Honda Civic Hybrid bucking/surging

Hi guys,

I think I might have the answer to your problems. It's not the CVT (at least it was not in my case)

I had what appears to be the same problem. Car would occasionally (maybe 1 time in 100) buck/surge when accelerating from stop. Sometimes this would happen when driving through a parking lot looking for a spot. Sometimes it would happen all the way up to 60 MPH. But it was not consistent.

I took the car into the Honda dealer and they checked the engine fault codes and said that nothing was wrong. The technician and I went for a drive on another issue (front suspensio noise - I'll post that as a seperate item), and low and behold we hit it lucky and he felt the surging problem.

He went back to the shop and looked to see if Honda had any firmware updates for the engine controller, and low and behold they did to fix that very same problem! (Why the guy never checked that in the first place is beyond me). They downloaded the new firmware and the problem is about 98% gone. Very mild surging occasionaly, but it pretty much drives like any other auromatic now. Made a huge difference.

So, don't listen to the stupid dealers when they tell you the engine checks out fine - insist they look for the firmware update. Shame on Honda for not asking all customers to come in for this fix that costs them next to nothing.

Cheers
