^^^Notice much of a difference with just the rack on? I keep my rack on most of the summer, and only noticed getting about 10 - 15 miles less per tank, which works out to just about 1 mpg. Not enough for the hassle of taking it off and cleaning the car to put it back on every time. I still average about 31-32 mpg (mostly highway) with the rack on.
Note: I did notice that the roof rack killed my mpg on one tank after I remounted it. I adjusted the angle of the fairing so that it layed closer the the angle of the windshield instead of being nearly vertical like in the picture above. Put me back to the above mpg. Having your bike on will kill mpg no matter what...bike = more drag.
