A cop can't just search your car because they suspect you have something illegal without some real reason. Just because you're crossing the state border isn't enough. but they could have probable cause for anything, they could say we smell gun powder, alcohol on your breath, or sex in your car and say do you have a prostitue haha, i got searced for some bs reason like that 4 years ago, and they cannot make you open your trunk as long as you are not being incarcerated already, but they will try to trick you to opening it, same with your shoes....well this is in texas
