The intake system is designed to work as one unit and disturbing any part of it might cause warning lights to appear. If you're looking to eliminate the resonator box just do it right and ditch the entire OEM intake for a after market CIA.

Nope, taking out the intake resonator will not cause a CEL error. It's been done by many, many people on this forum and elsewhere. The thing here is delving into the purpose of each part of the intake system. The Filter has an obvious purpose: to filter. It is essential. The intake resonator has a purpose, to: to make the most 'desireable' engine sound to mass consumers by restricting the air in a certain way. For those of us who don't mind a loud intake sound, and like a little better HP and MPG, it's a win-win situation.
