The resonator is the box at the bottom of the down tube that connects to the air box. The air actually comes in from the second tube that moves upward from the resonator and connects to the fender well. Honda's R&D cleverly designed that stock intake to provide nice cool air flow with a killer sound after the VTEC ignites without violating emission standards, it seems to be a bit chaotic but I have to agree that for a stock intake it does it's intended job.

As for the after market air cleaners, with a stock power plant the OEM air cleaners will actually function the best, they apply the right amount of air flow and particle protection for what's intended.
