Dear Sir or Madam,

This correspondence is being sent regarding a known issue with the model year 2006-2008 Honda Civic Si (sedan and coupe) with “hanging rpms”. Prior to purchasing my Si I did some reading up on this issue and though it seems resolved for the older models (2006, some 2007), it would seem the newest generation (2008) shares this quirk as well. Having driven many DBW (drive by wire) vehicles, my last one being a 2001 VW GTi 1.8T, I have experience with feel and operation of an electronic throttle system and this is not normal.

As I was looking to purchase a new car, the sporty Si came to mind and thanks to my local dealer, *************, the price was right and I signed all my papers yesterday afternoon (06/05/08). My sales person asked if I wanted to take my new car for a test drive and I jumped at the chance. This is a fantastic vehicle and much more fun than my VW was, but the rpm hang was a concern the entire time. My sales person said I’d have to re-learn how to drive my vehicle, and I begged to differ. Being an electronic throttle, there HAS to be a way to let the rpms drop much like the reflash that was done on the earlier cars (TSB 06-052). It made the vehicle very annoying to drive. If I was to drive and shift like a 70 year old woman, this might be acceptable, but I purchased the Si with higher expectations.

I was proud to say I purchased a Honda product knowing Hondas reputation for quality and durability, but with this issue, it might make me think twice. I would ask that Honda of America live up to it’s reputation of commitment to high quality and please look into this issue and make attempts to resolve it.

I will be awaiting your response to my complaint and hope to continue doing business, now and in the future with the Honda Motor Company.

Sincerely,

Hopefully this gets us somewhere.
