do some basic checks first...
if you use the ipod mainly, try playing a cd and see if it's still distorted.
if it is not distorted with the cd, then your connecting cable is either bad or it's not making a connection.
i know i have a silicone skin on my ipod, and the opening for the headphone jack is slightly too small, so it will pop out a little and make one channel really distorted.

play some cds just to be sure.
if it is still distorted with cds, then your connection may be loose or have some water in it, take it to the dealer and they should cover it.
