Ok, so i didnt like the ring adapter for the type r knob, and i dont like the way the lock nut looks under the shift knob. Heres a quick fix to make the boot stay flush with the knob, this will also lower the knob a bit and give the shortshifter appearance.
******This can also be done with the stock shift Knob******
First, start by removing the knob and lock nut. then pull up here on both sides of the base, it pops up pretty easy.
Next, stagger two zipties on top of each other below the threads. Position them so that the plastic piece inside the top of the shift boot sits just below the threads.
Now, do a test fit with the shift boot plastic ring, it should rest on the zipties, this will prevent it from moving down, the key is to postion the zipties so that when the knob is on, it will sit flush with the top of the boot and wont move around.
Finally, screw on your type R or Mugen Si shift knob, without the locknut, it should stop at the end of the threads and the numbers 1-6 should have a perfect north and south position. voila! now you have the appearance of a shortshifter, with a nice clean shiftboot to knob interface!
