ACTUALLY
they DO produce more lumens, and the 65W lasts JUST as lone as the 65W 9005 u currently have
the 9006 lasts LONGER than the halogens ive seen
ALSO
plug and play kits are NOT garunteed to last 3 times longer
and MANY of them DONT last anywhere near as long as the HIRs even last
reason for is low quality parts included
even people who sell not so bad quality ones (kassabbain) have problems with the kits sometimes
also they will require u to use a harness JUSt in case the ballast IS bad
cause if it is, youll be replacing your car wiring in short order
now
HIRs have been WELL researched and tested next to the leading HIDs (philips) and leading halogen bulbs (different variations of Sylvania)
first off, Silverstar puts out 15% less light than a standard halogen, and 20% less for the ULTRA version
their Xtravision tho puts out 10% more lumens
The HIR version of each bulb wipped the Xtravisions output in every category
they are made by Toshiba (a WELL known company) and its THEIR projected life on the bulb (which 55W lasts 2-3x longer than 55W 9006)
the filament MAY burn hotter, but if they make the filament to withstand more heat, it will last longer, thats exactly what the 55W HIR does, whereas it was tougher to get the 65W HIR to do that
so the 65W HIR filament is slightly built up compared to the 65W
ALSO
the repeated flicking does not damage an HIR/halogen bulb, whereas it WILL blow the ballast or cause premature bulb life... an ALMOST garuntee
and sometimes flicking is a necessary way to NOT be blinded by idiots with their poorly aimed HIDs in their highbeams, or just plain idiots on the road with their highbeams (and yes ive been blinded by retard drivers in 8th gen civics)
unless u live out west with LONG open roads and travel over 120 mph, u will never need the output of 50W HIDs in your high beams, just NOT necessary
ask any light expert, especially the blue color which in turn burns part of your retina or cornea (i forget) and doesnt recover as well from the 4300k range or REDDER
this is what causes eye fatigue
and wont allow you to drive farther anyways
personally i drive on ALOT of unlit highways here in CT (ud be surprised) and the standard output from the halogen is sufficient (just barely)
so i would consider dropping a 150 bux on 6 HIR bulbs that way i have extras for most of the life of the car (how often do you REALLY use ur highbeams?)
its an investment that is sure to help your eyes
and for someone who does 25000 miles a year, it is sure worth it for me (when i have some money lol)
yes u WILL get WAY more output from 50W halogen, but most likely the kit will NOT last as long as they claim
unless of course they are made by a LARGER manufacturer (hella philips etc.)
even the good ol kits (which i mind you i will be purchasing when i do my projector retrofit) will not last more than 3-4 years
someone like me who keeps a car til it dies, wants more than that (the reason ill be buying 2 kits hahahaha)
again
HIR bulbs ARE the way to go for 90% of the individuals who want more output from their highbeams but DONT want to wait for them to warm up
THEY ARE MADE BY TOSHIBA, not some unknown company in Korea!
they WILL last as they claim to
AND they are tested by unpaid testers who LOVE them
They are currently used in Dodge vipers and John Deere ride on tractors, amongst other rare vehicles
