VSA does not just "let off the throttle". Paired with EBD (electronic brake distribution), during understeer, VSA applies the brakes on the inner front wheel to force the car back in line. Thats why you feel as if the power has been cut, in reality, the it's the brakes that gives you the slowdown feeling.

Personally, at first I found VSA only slightly intrusive. 5000 miles later, I hate it and turn it off as soon as I start the motor.
