Talking DIY: Remove Spare Tire and save a little weight

LOL - pay attention and you will see ...

1. First open the trunk of the car.

Lift up the floor cover, unscrew the bolt, lift out the spare.

Here is where I did my little mod. I got some square aluminum pipe. Cut it to fit into the well. Joined it using L brackets and metal screws (I don't know how to weld). Placed into the wheel well and pushed into the sound deadener.

I bought some foam (closed cell) and cut spots for the wrench and jack. I also have the ContiComfort kit. It is the orange box above. I stuck it to the carpet floor. It will fill most minor holes in tires. I also have a tool kit, med kit and extra oil in the trunk. Quick and easy, only sliced one finger with the hack saw. I may redo it some time later, but it's not back for less than an hours work.
