I sold my Civic last month (regrettably too), but I never had any problems with the horn and I used it a few times per week.
I should add that with an air horn, there's a very slight delay (maybe 1/10 sec) between pressing the horn button and actually hearing the horn because the air compressor inside the horn has to spin up (or something to that effect).
Keep that in mind because when I went to lock the car, the factory "beep" is sometimes replaced with a faint "toot". Sometimes though I would hear nothing at all when I locked the car -- because the alarm "beep" is so brief. Hope this makes sense.
