You have to add the adapter if you want to run it from a 2.5" header outlet. If you want it to be a direct 3" inlet, you don't have to spend the $63. The $63 buys you a V-Band flange connection at the 3" inlet and a 2.5" 3 or 2 bolt flange (whichever you need)... plus a 2.5" to 3" expander tube to help make the transition a little more gentle.
