Go 3000K... if you go with anything but that, you will end up with a funny colour by the time the light gets filtered through the lens.

I had the same thing happen with white LEDs under a red lens. You'd think it would work but it doesn't because the LEDs aren't perfectly white. They're not HIDs obviously, but the principle is the same.
