I wanted to see what the commotion about HIR was, so I went ahead and ordered a pair $55 shipped from candlepower.com today. UPS ground from Maryland to California, I'd guess it'll be about a week.
One tip about these 3rd party lights burning out quickly: the bulbs almost always do that because they have contaminants on the surface, usually oil from your fingertips. That's why you often see people changing bulbs while wearing gloves, it's to prevent them from getting anything on the bulb. My personal method is to use my bare hands to mount the bulb into the plug (still trying not to touch the bulb), then right before I put the bulb into the housing, I wipe down the entire bulb surface with a fresh cotton pad soaked in alcohol. I've installed 3 pairs of bulbs inside my last car with this method, and when they burned out (after 1-2 years), it was always the filament inside that burned through, not the bulb exploding.
