but hiding your VIN to prevent someone from making a duplicate key at a dealer is b/s. I don't know if someone told you how that's how cars are stolen but it isn't. It's a myth and its been disproven, with a link on this site too.
In addition, covering your VIN is illegal in some areas (so I've been told) and would check up on that first. Other than that there are many other places to find your vehicle's VIN besides just the dash.
In the end you can't even use it to make keys so there's no point really in worrying about it. Lojacks, the club, garages or whatever else will help you. Hiding your VIN won't.
Nothing stops flatbedding it either. Even AWD cars - some ppl claim that their car will lock or an alarm will go off when its lifted, yet I watched an S80 with all that go on a truck and it didn't make a peep. It scared the owner though (this was for a broken transmission).
