I don't think so. That carbon fiber piece looks like an asthetic piece. Has nothing to do with the intake. If it does, then it would do a really pathetic job. I too saw the picture in the diagram, but how would any air reach that side duct as there is no position in the front of the car to facillitate that.

I am talking about the side of the airbox facing the battery. I am assuming it is for connecting the factory cold air intake tube, but I may be completely wrong. Having a gaping hole that big would somewhat limit the ram air effect as a vacuum would create suction and would be needed until under speed, when the ram effect would take over.
