try turning off your laptop screen and only outputting to TV.
a few things to clear up:
-you can get "HD" through any of the standard PC outputs, VGA, DVI, and now HDMI.
-if your PC does not have HDCP, the only "HD" way to view Blue Ray is VGA.
-if your PC has HDMI than it has HDCP. HDCP is only optional on DVI
