With Manual trannies and diffs, if they use a gear lube, They will be thinner at operating temp. Most people don't know that 75W-90 and 20W-50 Motor oil are the same viscosity at operating temp (212)
As far as changing the engine oil cold or warm, all the contaminants are in the crankcase and not distributed through the engine.
What I consider warm is after driving long enough for the engine to be at operating temp and then changing after cool down for 2-3 hours which will help with oil hang-up.
