In all fairness, neither do you. You don't work at the Alliston plant, nor do you work for any publication that reviews quality control, nor are you an exception to the "first year model" rule. EVERY first year model has problems.

And you know this how? You're doubting improvement in a second year model vehicle. Why? Because your own pessimism and disgust for a vehicle has led you to that conclusion, which, I'm sure is far from the truth. If you're that dissapointed, you need to address it with your dealer and see about getting a trade-in for an 07 model. Or perhaps some other make, like Toyota, who've been having their own quality control issues. No manufacturer is exempt. Every model car on the road has its own issues, especially in the first year of production.

Majority of the owners you're referring to, I'm almost positive, are here on the site. I'm sure there are quite a few other owners who've had problems as well, who don't even know this site exists, however, Honda has plans to sell 500,000+ Civics a year; of course there are going to be a few bad apples out of that bunch. But majority of the people here don't seem to have a bad apple (lemon if I'm being politically correct), just a couple bad components, which is totally understandable, because because first year models and redesigns typically do not share very many proven components from other currently available models. The newer and complicated things are, the more likely they are to break, which, again, I'm sure Honda has learned to fix.
